Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity works in Lucas County to fulfill the vision that everyone has a decent place to live. Our Homeownership Program partners with families through financial management, home maintenance education, and the purchase of their own homes. Our Repair Programs work with low-income homeowners to provide health and safety related repairs. ReStore, located at 1310 Conant Street, sells new and gently used building materials, furniture, and appliances to the public with all profits supporting our two programs.
This year, to provide hope to members of our community, several congregations are coming together to support a Methodist Build. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower.
Donalda was accepted into the homeownership program in May 2015. She is a mother to Kevin, who is 12 years old. For the past 3 years, she has worked at Sunset House as a residential and dietary aid.
Donalda heard about the program through her cousin and current homeowner, Shatara Brown. She applied to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Program because she wants to own a home and provide stability for her son.
Donalda has been working hard completing her sweat equity hours in the ReStore, offices and helping out on some construction projects. She completed half of her sweat equity hours (125 hours) in December 2015.
5051 Yermo is a one story, two bedroom, one bath, single family residence. Donalda chose this as her forever home because it is the perfect size for her and her family.
It is located in the Washington Local school district and Kevin is excited about attending a new school in the Fall.
This build project will be total home renovation. Everything will be replaced from the roof, walls, electrical, plumbing, kitchen, bathroom, driveway, landscaping, and more!
With the wide variety of project needs, from the novice to the skilled, there is something for everyone to do! Together we are putting God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope!
